Sudha Murty Unveils Detective Gopi, a New Mystery Book

A summer escape, a curious canine and an unexpected mystery set the stage for the latest adventure in Sudha Murty’s much-loved Gopi Diaries series.

What begins as a search for respite from Bengaluru’s sweltering summer soon turns into a mystery-solving adventure for Gopi, the lovable canine protagonist created by celebrated author Sudha Murty. In Detective Gopi, the fifth book in The Gopi Diaries series, a getaway Ajji plans to the banks of the River Shubhada takes an unexpected turn as Gopi tests his detective instincts.

Published by HarperCollins Publishers India, the book was launched at Heritage Xperiential Learning School in Gurugram, in collaboration with KoolSkool, bringing the joy of storytelling to young readers through an interaction with the author. Students discussed their favourite books, reading preferences and the stories that spark their imagination, making the occasion as much about engaging with literature as celebrating a new release.

Murty, known for her accessible storytelling and the warmth with which she explores everyday relationships, has built a special connection with readers across generations. A prolific writer in English and Kannada, she has authored more than 42 books spanning children’s literature, novels, short stories and travelogues. Her stories often draw on Indian life, values and familiar experiences, making complex ideas approachable without losing their emotional resonance. A computer science engineer by training, she is the founder of the Infosys Foundation, Chairperson of the Murty Trust and a recipient of honours including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Sahitya Akademi Award. She was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

With Detective Gopi, Murty brings together humour, adventure and the thrill of a mystery, while illustrator Suvidha Mistry adds visual character to the story. Mistry’s work in children’s publishing has earned recognition, including the Publishing Next Award in 2019.

At its heart, Detective Gopi invites young readers to follow their curiosity, ask questions, and discover that an ordinary getaway can lead to an extraordinary adventure.
