When art and luxury get together

Set against the warm, candlelit elegance of QLA in Mehrauli, Gallery Silver Scapes, in collaboration with Dhoomimal Art Gallery, hosted a refined after-hours presentation celebrating two seminal voices of Indian modernism, A. A. Almelkar and Akkitham Narayanan. Conceived as a thoughtful extension of ongoing artistic dialogues, the evening brought together collectors, artists, diplomats, and cultural patrons for a focused, immersive engagement with their works.

Collectors, artists, diplomats, and patrons engaged in thoughtful exchanges as the evening unfolded less like a formal exhibition and more like a refined, slow-paced dialogue with art.

Almelkar’s lyrical figurations, rooted in rural life, folklore, and cultural memory, brought warmth and narrative depth to the showcase. The occasion also marked the launch of ALMELKAR: THE RESURRECTION – Letters & Lines of a Master, a new publication tracing his artistic journey. Featuring works from the National Gallery of Modern Art collection and essays by leading scholars and curators, the book offers fresh insight into his lasting contribution to modern Indian art.

The evening drew a distinguished gathering including Suhel Seth, Ajitabh Bachchan, Ramola Bachchan, and artists Jatin Das and Manish Pushkale, alongside collectors and young enthusiasts, creating a meaningful intergenerational exchange.

By presenting these modernist voices in an elegant, convivial setting, the galleries reaffirmed their commitment to recontextualising Indian modernism — not as history alone, but as a living, resonant presence within today’s cultural landscape.
