Empowering Young Minds for a More Sustainable Future

Gurgaon First Foundation and M3M Foundation Kickstart Sustainable Development Training at Shiv Nadar School. Over the recent weekend, the auditorium of Shiv Nadar School, Gurgaon, buzzed with youthful energy and a shared sense of purpose. Over 60 students and teachers from Shiv Nadar School, Satya School, and Suncity School came together for the first session of a 12-part Sustainable Development Training Programme,  an initiative by Gurgaon First Foundation in collaboration with M3M Foundation and Shiv Nadar School.

This half-day training wasn’t just another workshop. It was a call to action. It aimed to instil awareness, capability, and commitment in young minds, empowering them to see themselves as key players in building a greener, fairer future.

Especially for Gen Z

Gen Z is the first generation to grow up with climate change as a daily reality. From melting glaciers appearing in their social media feeds to breathing the smog-choked air of urban winters, the environmental crisis is no longer a distant threat. It’s here, now.

Today’s youth inherit a planet under stress, but also the tools, technology, and creativity to reverse the damage. The need of the hour is to bridge the gap between awareness and action, and that’s precisely what this programme sets out to do.

Learning to Live Sustainably

The training featured expert-led sessions on:

  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Understanding the global blueprint for peace and prosperity.
  • Waste Management and Recycling – Practical ways to reduce, reuse, and rethink consumption.
  • Water Sustainability and Conservation – Tackling one of India’s most urgent challenges.
  • Clean Transport and Non-Motorised Mobility – Encouraging greener ways to move.
  • Renewable Energy and Solar Solutions – Shaping an energy-independent future.

These sessions were made engaging through interactive games, quizzes, and a motivational talk by a changemaker, ensuring that knowledge wasn’t just absorbed but experienced.

Voices of Change

Guiding this green journey were experts Rajat Batra, Bhawani Shanker Tripathi, Sangeeta Nayyar, Piyush Kumar, Nidhi Dandona, and Gautam Malik, who brought real-world insights and passion to every discussion.

Each student left with a certificate of participation, a symbolic first step in their journey as environmentally conscious citizens.

The Road Ahead

This was just the beginning. Over the coming months, the programme will expand to more schools, colleges, and community groups, weaving sustainable thinking into the very fabric of education.

If sustainability is to become more than a buzzword, it must be lived in our homes, our classrooms, and our choices. As the young participants left the venue, their conversations weren’t about marks or exams, but about ideas from rooftop solar panels to carpool apps, from composting to green entrepreneurship.

For a generation that will live with the consequences of today’s choices, the path is clear: sustainable living is not optional, it’s survival. And initiatives like this ensure that the future will be in capable, caring, and climate-conscious hands.
