Celebrating the charm of Dev Anand at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi

0

The evening at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport was one of nostalgia, artistry, and timeless storytelling, as acclaimed theatre personality Sohaila Kapur presented her much-loved production, Anand Hi Anand.

Hosted in collaboration with Media Net Works and Travel Secrets Magazine, the performance took the audience back to the golden age of Indian cinema through the lives of the legendary Anand Brothers – Chetan, Dev, and Vijay (Goldie) Anand.

The elegant halls of the hotel echoed with cinematic history as Sohaila, in her characteristic narrative style, seamlessly interwove rare anecdotes, memories, and film excerpts. The audience sat mesmerised, almost ‘mantramugdh,’ as she recounted the remarkable synergy of the brothers, their sacrifices, and the creative spirit that transformed Dev Anand into an enduring icon of Hindi cinema.

The storytelling

Part of her biographical series Lives Lived, the 105-minute production was a confluence of theatre, music, and history. Sohaila’s narration, blending warmth, wit, and deep personal insight, brought a unique intimacy to the evening. She is the niece of the Anand brothers and the younger sister of filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. It was not just a performance; it was a heartfelt tribute to a family legacy that shaped Indian film history.

Speaking on the occasion, Sohaila Kapur shared: “This production is very close to my heart because it’s not just history – it’s family. The Anand brothers were not only remarkable artists but extraordinary human beings. Through Anand Hi Anand, I want the audience to relive their magic, their struggles, their triumphs, and to remember why they remain so loved, even decades later.”

Hospitality par excellence

As always, the evening was further enhanced by the warmth and hospitality of Radisson Blu Plaza General Manager, Ashwini Goela, and his proficient team. A delicious, well-thought-out menu and beverage selection were carefully curated to match the occasion and theme of the evening. Guests enjoyed a beautifully crafted wine and cheese experience, paired to complement the artistic ambience of the night. The event was an unforgettable celebration of both culture and culinary finesse.

The evening also reflected Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport’s long-standing commitment to celebrating art and culture. Nitin Kapur, Managing Director, Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport, remarked, “Our hotel has long been a home for art, music and culture, where every experience goes beyond hospitality.”

Since its debut in December 2024, Anand Hi Anand has captivated audiences in Delhi, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Shimla, and Chandigarh. A joint creation by Katyayani and the Three Arts Club (one of India’s oldest theatre groups, founded in 1943), it continues to showcase the synergy between Sohaila Kapur and Anuradha Dar.

Simmi Sood, Director of PR & Marketing, brimming with a confident smile, said, ‘We not only curate majestic evenings at our hotel, but it also embodies our mantra of offering heartfelt hospitality and timeless memories. And this production of the Anand brothers was no less than magic, seamlessly blending culture with luxury.”

The evening at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport once again reaffirmed that theatre, when imbued with personal truth and cinematic history, has the power to transport its audience.
