What’s Holding You Back? Unlock the Five Koshas
You’ve been doing all the right things—eating better, setting intentions, maybe even meditating. But the feeling persists. That sense of being stuck. The nagging feeling that no matter how far you go, you somehow find yourself right back where you started.
It’s not laziness. Not a lack of effort. And it’s not just you.
What if the real reason you feel blocked isn’t out there in your job, relationships, or responsibilities but buried deep within you? Not in a surface-level flaw, but in the very layers that make up your being?
Unlocking the Five Koshas and Inner Reprogramming
The ancient Yogic concept of the Pancha Koshas, the five subtle sheaths of the self, may explain. According to this timeless framework, transformation doesn’t happen by tweaking one part of your life. It happens when you bring all parts of your being, including body, breath, mind, intuition, and soul, into harmony.
The Five Layers of You
In the Yogic text Taittiriya Upanishad, we are described not just as physical beings, but as five-dimensional ones:
- Annamaya Kosha – the physical body
- Pranamaya Kosha – the energy or breath body
- Manomaya Kosha – the emotional and mental body
- Vijnanamaya Kosha – the intuitive or wisdom body
- Anandamaya Kosha – the bliss body, our deepest essence
Each layer is connected. When one is misaligned, the others adjust, and that’s when we unconsciously revert to old patterns: fear, anger, self-doubt, and exhaustion.
Rather than a flaw, this is a signal. Your being is inviting you inward. The only way out is within.
Where Does This Programming Come From?
Global Yoga educator Dr Yogrishi Vishvketu, founder of Akhanda Yoga Institute, explains that much of what holds us back is deeply embedded programming across all five Koshas. He identifies three primary sources:
- Ancestral – inherited patterns and energetic imprints
- Societal/Educational – the conditioning of culture and upbringing
- Soul Coding – Karmic memory unique to your journey
This isn’t just a concept from ancient philosophy. Modern science is catching up: epigenetics, trauma research, neuroplasticity, and somatic therapy now confirm that healing must address the whole self. Change isn’t just about changing your mind—it’s about gently, persistently rewriting your entire inner landscape.
The Practice of Akhanda 5-Koshas
To help people engage all five layers, Dr Yogrishi developed a unique integrative system called Akhanda 5-Koshas. This holistic Yoga style blends asana (movement), pranayama (breath), mantra, philosophy, and meditation, designed not just for physical fitness but for deep, conscious healing.
It’s a practical path which he calls Yoga Chikitsa, a therapeutic Yoga approach that honours the full complexity of human experience. Whether you’re a beginner or lifelong practitioner, Akhanda 5-Koshas offers a sacred yet accessible way to align your layers.
Inner Reprogramming: A Return to Wholeness
“Inner Reprogramming is a trauma-informed Yogic practice that uses slow movement and breath to access and dissolve subconscious patterns. It’s like giving your nervous system permission to exhale, to soften, release, and recalibrate,” he adds.

Healing Isn’t Becoming. It’s Remembering.
At its heart, this journey isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to what has always been whole in you: the Anandamaya Kosha – the bliss body, untouched by fear, shame, or stories.
“Say yes to your Self.” If life feels like it’s nudging you to shift, if old stories no longer fit, you don’t need to fight harder. You need to listen more deeply to all of you.
Let go of what you’re not. And come home to who you truly are.
